Only the two rails that carry each panel are lipped — every other rail and every leg stays plain 25.4mm square tube. For plain tube right through, choose No panels — frame only. Panel sits in lipped rails on two opposite sides (no notching). The rails come in your chosen frame finish; the 6mm sheet itself is always mill finish — not anodised. Fitting them is simple — no screws, no drilling (the manufacturer’s own method). Shelf panels drop onto the lips. Using your own glass or acrylic? Stick a few soft rubber pads (“bumpons”) on the lips first — cushions the sheet and stops rattle. Vertical panels (sides, front/back, back walls): turn those lipped rails so the channel faces the outside — the panel then finishes just shy of flush with the outer face, as drawn. Slide it in from outside; its weight rests on the rail below. Run a bead of neutral-cure silicone in the channel first so it can’t come back out. Avoid the vinegar-smelling (acetic) silicone — it attacks metal, and neutral cure is the acrylic-safe choice too. 6mm aluminium panels are heavy — a large side panel can be over 20 kg. Place big ones with two people, bottom edge first. The joints: tap together with a rubber mallet; left dry the frame stays reconfigurable. For a permanent or heavier build, run a thin continuous bead of polyurethane adhesive inside each tube end before assembly, or rivet the joints. Castors and adjustable feet thread into their plastic insert — wind them in carefully by hand, never force them.
