Why Cut-to-Size?
Buying aluminium in full 6.5 metre lengths is fine if you’re a fabricator with a full workshop. For most tradespeople, builders and DIYers in Melbourne it isn’t — you pay for metal you don’t need, and you still have to cut it yourself.
That’s why cut-to-size is one of the most popular things we do. You tell us the sizes, we cut them in our Hallam workshop, and you pick them up or have them delivered, ready to use on the job.
Price It and Order It Online
You don’t need to wait for a quote. Open the product you need and press Order cut to size:
- Pick the finish — for example 50 x 50 x 3mm angle, mill finish.
- Type the lengths you need and how many of each, in millimetres.
- See the cut plan and the price — it works out the fewest stock lengths, shows how every piece is cut from them, and prices the material and the cutting together.
- Press Add cut job to cart, then choose pickup or delivery at checkout.
Got a whole cut list across several profiles? Use the AluCut Optimiser or the Project Builder to price the lot in one go.
What Can Be Cut to Size?
- Aluminium angle (equal and unequal)
- Aluminium channel
- Flat bar
- Rectangular and square hollow section (RHS and SHS)
- Round tube
- Aluminium sheet — cut to your sizes on the panel saw
- Aluminium plate (5083 marine grade, 3–12mm)
Looking for a thicker piece of plate, or round or solid bar? Check our offcuts first.
Good to Know Before You Order
- Blade allowance: each cut takes about 6mm of material. Type the finished sizes you need — on lengths, the cut plan already allows for the blade.
- Tolerance: cut pieces are within ±2mm.
- Shortest piece: 40mm when cut from a length.
- Cutting charges: cutting is priced per product, and some products include free cuts. The price you see before you add it to your cart already includes the cutting.
- Offcuts: your choice — take the leftover with your order at no charge, or leave it with us.
- Minimum order: it varies by product and is shown on the product page before you add anything to the cart.
- Cut edges: left as cut, and they can be sharp. Narrow or thin strips can bow slightly as the metal’s internal stress releases.
- Coloured or anodised profiles: the cut ends are bare aluminium.
- Check your sizes: cut pieces are made to order, so they can’t be returned if the sizes entered were wrong.
How Long It Takes
Most cut-to-size orders are ready in 1–3 business days. Coloured (powder coated) orders take longer — the time is shown when you choose a colour. We’ll let you know when your order is ready to collect.
